This photo of Grandfather Mountain was taken at Beacon Heights Overlook near the 305 mile marker of the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. Although historians cannot agree on just when and how the mountain was named, early settlers named it Grandfather Mountain because the mountain's face resembled an old, long bearded man looking skyward. I guess one would need a different view than this to prove that.
